SUS304 (SUS means stainless steel for steel) stainless steel austenite is usually called SS304 or AISI 304 in Japanese. The main difference between the two materials is not any physical properties or characteristics, but the way they are quoted in the United States and Japan.
However, there are mechanical differences between the two steels. In one example, SS304 samples obtained from US sources and SUS304 samples obtained from Japanese sources were sent to the laboratory for testing.
SUS304 (JIS standard) is one of the most widely used versions of stainless steel. It is composed of 18% Cr (chromium) and 8% Ni (nickel). It can still maintain its strength and heat resistance at high and low temperatures. It also has good weldability, mechanical properties, cold workability and corrosion resistance at room temperature. SS304 (ANSI 304) is the most commonly used stainless steel when manufacturing other stainless-steel materials and is usually purchased under cold or annealing conditions. Similar to SUS304, SS304 also contains 18% Cr and 8% Ni, so it is called 18/8. SS304 has good weldability, heat resistance, corrosion resistance, low temperature strength, workability, mechanical properties, heat treatment is not hardened, bending, stamping isothermal workability is good. SS304 is widely used in many industries, including food, medical and decorative work. Chemical composition of SUS304 and SS 304.

(Si) | ≤1.00 | ≤0.75 |
(Mn) | ≤2.00 | ≤2.00 |

Corrosion resistance of 304 stainless steel as we all know, 304 stainless steel performs well in various atmospheric environments and corrosive media. However, in a warm chloride environment, when the temperature exceeds 60 ° C, it is prone to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion. At ambient temperature, it is also considered to be able to withstand drinking water containing up to about 200 mg/l chloride. Physical characteristics of SUS304 and SS304
The two materials are very close in physical and chemical properties, so it is easy to say that they are the same materials. Similarly, the main difference between the two countries is the standardization between the United States and Japan. This means that unless specific regulations or requirements are specified by the country or the customer, each material can be used alternatively.
